University and Junior Doctor Training - Aberdeen
Jamie graduated from the University of Aberdeen medical school with a MBChB with Honours and First Class Intercalated BSc MedSci (Hons).
Following graduation he completed the Aberdeen Academic Foundation Programme with a surgical rotation theme.
Specialist Training - Edinburgh
Jamie undertook his specialist training at the Edinburgh Orthopaedic unit. He had a keen interest in trauma and upper limb and completed a PhD during his training.
He also was a teaching fellow for the university and was responsible for the undergraduate delivery of Trauma and Orthopaedics for the university.
Fellowship Training - Adelaide South Australia
Jamie undertook a specialist fellowship in Complex Trauma Surgery at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. This is a tertiary referral hospital for the South, Central and Northern territories of Australia for major trauma and difficult planned orthopaedic surgery. It is a modern state of the art hospital and is regarded as one of the top Orthopaedic hospitals worldwide.
During this year Jamie gained expertise in orthopaedic trauma with a particular focus on upper limb surgery of the shoulder, elbow and hand.
Jamie also spent time in the private sector with the Adelaide Shoulder and Upper Limb Clinic to further his knowledge and skills in joint replacement, key hole and soft tissue surgery of the upper limb.
Visiting Fellowship - Sydney Shoulder Specialists
Jamie undertook a short travelling fellowship to work with the Sydney Shoulder Specialist unit at the North Shore Hospital.
Here Jamie learnt specialist knowledge and techniques on complex shoulder and elbow elective surgery.
Visiting Fellowship - Chicago
Jamie visited the University of Chicago Medicine major trauma centre for a travelling fellowship. Here he joined the trauma team to gain knowledge on complex reconstruction techniques. He worked closely with Professor Jason Strelzow an upper limb expert and trauma surgeon.
