Mr Nicholson Independent MedicoLegal Expert Witness

I am a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon based at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. This is the Major Trauma Centre for South East Scotland, one of the busiest Orthopaedic Trauma units in the country and a department with international recognition.

My clinical practice is focussed predominately on Trauma with a specialist interest in complex orthopaedic injuries, major trauma and the sequelae of musculoskeletal injuries. I also have expertise and a particular interest in injuries of the upper limb and undertake elective reconstruction surgery of shoulder, elbow and wrist conditions.

I have a strong academic background in Orthopaedic trauma with a PhD based on fracture healing and over fifty peer reviewed publications. I have been an invited speaker at multiple international conferences and was the recipient of the prestigious Syme Medal research award from the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh.

I am a faculty member of the internationally renowned annual Edinburgh International Trauma Symposium. I am a member of the Orthopaedic Trauma Society (OTS), British Elbow and Shoulder Surgeons (BESS) and European Society for Surgery of the Shoulder and Elbow (SECEC).

I am an independent expert witness and have undertaken formal training in medicolegal witness report writing with Bond Solo, Insight Medical and the British Trauma Society.
